Founded: February 2001

Staff: Two full-time employees, creative instigator Simon Young and client custodian Marie Young. (And yes, we’re a married couple, not a brother and sister)

Contractors: We have an ever-growing pool of writers who we bring into projects, depending on their skills and passions. Last time we counted there were about forty. (We’re writers, not statisticians!)

Skills: Right now we’ve got writers experienced in these fields:

  • Journalism
  • Direct marketing
  • PR
  • Advertising
  • Technical writing
  • Screenwriting
  • Web copywriting

Our head office is in Auckland, New Zealand, which means we live in the future (our timezone is GMT+12). In some rare cases we may even deliver your job before you commission it!

We also work with writers from around the world, from London to LA and beyond.

SimonYoungWriters helps marketers, entrepreneurs, web developers and communications agencies craft potent, springloaded words that make things happen.

Most importantly, we work with people who see the need to be human, and want to connect with their audience.

ideas.png

  • In writing, accuracy and clarity are very important, and not enough.
  • Businesses need to start talking with a human voice
  • Humans sometimes need help finding their voice
  • We help humans in business - and other organisations - find and articulate their voice

We’re fans of the ideas expressed in The Cluetrain Manifesto, and see them playing out in the world of marketing all the time. You’ll not only get writing from us; you’ll get cutting-edge marketing thinking as well.

Some time ago, I was like many freelance writers. Working from the corner of the kitchen, with just the cat for company, alternating between begging for work and turning work away because I was so busy.

There had to be a better way. I knew it. And as a journalist who lives and breathes entrepreneurial innovation, I thought maybe I’d learned enough to find that better way. (read more)
