Our story

synewpicsml1.jpgHi, I’m Simon Young, founder and creative instigator at SimonYoungWriters. Some time ago, I was like many freelance writers. Working from the corner of the kitchen, with just the cat for company, alternating between begging for work and turning work away because I was so busy.

There had to be a better way. I knew it. And as a journalist who lives and breathes entrepreneurial innovation, I thought maybe I’d learned enough to find that better way.

Back then the company was called Simon Young Limited – and that was about the truth: Simon Young was limited.

And so SimonYoungWriters was born. A company that connects companies with the best writer for the job. A company that brings together the communications skills of remarkable individuals to create words that connect.

Between then and now, many things have happened. I’ve learned how not to do some things, and how to do other things better. Biggest lesson learnt? Not all writing is the same. Different kinds of writing take different skills, and it’s better to work with people who have the right knowledge and experience than to fight against them.

Second biggest lesson learnt? All the different types of writing can learn from each other. In fact, that’s the kind of world we’re living in: cross-disciplinary. As a collective culture we’ve grown overfull on same-old, same-old. Sometimes the only way to break through the haze is to mix it up a little. To infuse technical writing with a bit of poetry, for example. Or to apply Hollywood’s storytelling skills to web site structure.

It’s all about ripping aside the barriers and allowing human beings to connect with each other – the way we’ve always done it, in a brand new way.

What do you think? Is that the kind of attitude you need working with you? Talk to us and let’s see what happens!
